West Jefferson Medical Center Auxiliary Starts Fund To Assist Fire Chief Chauvin’s Family

MARRERO, LA –The Auxiliary to West Jefferson Medical Center is hosting a fundraising drive to honor St. John District Fire Chief Spencer Chauvin who lost his life Sunday, August 28, 2016, in the line of duty.

According to WWL-TV, State Police reported Chauvin was on the scene of a single-vehicle accident on I-10 Westbound near Belle Terre Boulevard in Laplace when a charter bus crashed into his fire truck. Chauvin died in the crash and two other fire fighters were injured.

“This brave firefighter and fire leader was also the husband of a West Jefferson Medical Center (WJMC) employee,” said Althea LaCour, Hospital Auxiliary president at WJMC.

The special fund to help the Chauvin family in the coming days is established in recognition of this fire fighter’s great and ultimate sacrifice, LaCour said.

Donations may be mailed to the Auxiliary to West Jefferson Medical Center, 1101 Medical Center Boulevard, Marrero, LA 70072, or brought to the Auxiliary office today, tomorrow or Thursday at the same address.
