VOAGNO To Break Ground On New Northshore Housing Development

Rendering of The Cottages at Mile Branch

COVINGTON, LA – Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans will host a groundbreaking ceremony at the newest housing development of its subsidiary Renaissance Neighborhood Development Corporation (RNDC), Thursday, Nov.r 3, at The Cottages at Mile Branch, 1120 Polders Ln., in Covington, LA.

The Cottages at Mile Branch will offer 25 two, three and four-bedroom single-family, lease-to-own homes on individual lots. Thirteen of the homes will be set aside for Veterans and their families, and four of those will be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and able to accommodate the needs of physically injured Veterans.

There will be an 11:00 a.m. groundbreaking ceremony and an 11:30 a.m. reception with light refreshments.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans and Renaissance Neighborhood Development Corporation will be joined by representatives from supporting partners – Louisiana Housing Corporation, PNC Real Estate, The Home Depot Foundation and Enterprise Community Partners.

The event is open to the public.

Attendees can RSVP at vking@voagno.org or (504) 486-8699.

Volunteers of America reps said the Cottages at Mile Branch are affordable, convenient and designed with families in mind. In addition to living in an energy-efficient home in a beautiful neighborhood, residents will belong to a neighborhood association and have access to a community park, recreation facilities, computer lab and even top-ranked public education in nearby schools. The homes will be restricted to households earning up to 60 percent of the area median income.

The homes will be built in phases, with the first phase of four homes anticipated to be complete by Spring 2017. The development will complete RNDC’s existing planned neighborhood development already comprised of The Groves at Mile Branch – a 94-unit apartment facility – and 10 existing single-family homes.
