VOAGNO Hosts ‘Volunteer Connections’ To Recruit For St. Tammany Parish Opportunities

COVINGTON, LA – Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans (VOAGNO) and other Northshore area nonprofits will host the Volunteer Connections event to educate prospective volunteers of all ages about opportunities in St. Tammany Parish on Thursday, Sept. 21, at Northshore Catholic Charities, 4465 East Highway 190 Service Rd., in Covington.

A presentation on the various volunteer opportunities will take place from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., and from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. prospective volunteers will speak directly with agency representatives.

The purpose of this event is to educate individuals interested in volunteering in St. Tammany Parish, and attendees will learn how they can help address important community needs.

Event organizers said in order for us to live in a community where quality of life prevails, it takes everyone being part of the solution to assist all levels of society. When someone enters a hospital for services, or receives housing assistance, or their child receives extra help in reading, or they receive food or basic services, their life has been touched by a volunteer, they said.

Individuals of all ages can have a positive impact on others through volunteerism, VOAGNO reps said. There are volunteer opportunities available to suit every interest, from providing aid to senior citizens, to helping homeless families, to supporting veterans, to working with disabled individuals and more.

Volunteer Connections is free and open to the public, and RSVPs are requested but not required by contacting program director Dee Wild at (985) 674-0488 or by email: dwild@voagno.org
