U.S. Congressman Scalise Issues Statement On LA Flooding

Congressman Steve Scalise

BATON ROUGE – On Monday, August 22, 2016,

House Majority Whip and U.S. State Representative from Louisiana Steve Scalise issued the following statement regarding the recent Louisiana floods:

“As south Louisiana continues the recovery process following the heavy rain and flooding that affected thousands of families, my thoughts and prayers are with those who have been impacted.

“Last week, I visited heavily damaged areas in the towns of Central and Denham Springs. While the damage from the floods was heartbreaking, the scenes of neighbors helping neighbors and uplifting stories of the "Cajun Navy" – which consisted of local neighbors launching their own boats to rescue and assist those in need – showcased our great state's unbreakable spirit and sense of community. While we saw devastation and heartache, what stood out the most was the strength and resilience of the people of south Louisiana!

“I remain in constant contact with officials on the ground to make sure they have all the tools they need to protect families whose homes and neighborhoods are flooding, and assist with the recovery.

“Currently, residents in 20 parishes are eligible for disaster assistance. These funds can be used to pay for rent, household repairs, medical costs and transportation, hazard mitigation, other benefits and recovery loans through the Small Business Administration.

“You can apply for disaster assistance online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or call (800)621-FEMA.

“Don't hesitate to contact any of my offices if we can be of any assistance during these trying times.

“It is an honor to represent you in Congress.

“God Bless, Steve Scalise, House Majority Whip”
