Tulane Business Forum Has Big Ideas On Big Data, Impact On Businesses

NEW ORLEANS – In its 38th annual program, “Big Ideas, Big Data – Connecting. Managing. Improving,” the Tulane Business Forum will feature a group of renowned industry leaders who will explore technology in the work place, its global impact and how it has transformed business.
A portion of the program, on Friday, Sept. 22, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., will feature a panel that will highlight commerce, trade and legal and business considerations in Cuba.
The Tulane Business Forum, presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana, underwritten by Capital One, and sponsored by the Tulane Association of Business Alumni, will present keynote speakers I. Steven Udvarhelyi, M.D., president and CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana (Baton Rouge); and Michael B. Eason, senior vice president, commercial technology of Capital One (Virginia).
Dr. Udvarhelyi will provide an overview of the market forces and legislative changes that have shaped healthcare over the past seven years. He will also discuss a number of key trends that have remained prominent for decades and that need to be addressed effectively to achieve durable improvement in quality, value and transformation of healthcare.
Eason will explain how Capital One, one of the leading financial services companies, is undergoing a technology transformation centered on delivering breakthrough digital customer experiences. He will share key learnings about what matters most through the digital transformation journey.
Other presenters include:
• Michael A. Fitts, president of Tulane University (New Orleans), who will provide welcoming remarks.
• C. Brian Fox, CPA, president and founder of Confirmation.com (Tennessee), will speak about taking his concept of online audit confirmations and turning it into a technology company that protects investors around the world.
• Bill Masterton, president and CEO of University Medical Center New Orleans (UMCNO – New Orleans), will explain how UMCNO is improving access by growing exponentially, training thousands of health care providers and providing meaningful work to thousands in and around the surrounding communities.
• Garth Roark, managing director, tax transformation and technology of KPMG LLP (Washington) will address the potential transformational impacts that intelligent automation can have on the operational model, security, risks, people and talent, and key performance indicators within the tax function.
• Christopher K. Ralston, partner at Phelps Dunbar LLP (New Orleans) will moderate a panel discussion on doing business in Cuba with panelists Caitlin Cain, CEO of the World Trade Center of New Orleans; Brandy D. Christian, president and CEO of the Port of New Orleans; and José R. Cot, partner at Hurley & Cot, APLC (New Orleans) and co-editor of “Cuba: A Legal Guide to Business.”
Each year, the forum features speakers of national and international acclaim who address a variety of general business topics, organizers said.
Forum registration, which includes continental breakfast and lunch, is $200 for the general public and $150 for Tulane alumni.
Accountants can earn five Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits; engineers can earn five Professional Development Hour (PDH) credits; and attorneys can earn four Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits by attending the forum.
