Thibodaux’ United Community Bank To Debut Reimagined Branch Concept

THIBODAUX, LA – The Thibodaux Bayou Branch of United Community Bank at 200 East Bayou Rd., in Thibodaux, LA, is undergoing reconstruction as part of the southern banking company’s embrace of a modern approach to in-person banking. The branch began its temporary closure on Monday, September 26, 2016, so that construction could begin, with the building scheduled to reopen in the spring of 2017.

The new space will feature an open floor plan that accommodates universally trained bankers who are able to see to any financial need, as opposed to more traditional teller counters and windows.

“We’re enhancing our customers’ lobby experience by adapting to what they want, which is face-to-face interactions with people who can help them with virtually anything that might bring them into a bank,” said Sonny Aldridge, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of United Community Bank.

“At a time where many banks are reducing staff and employing machines as replacements, we are putting an investment in people and training our bankers to be universally equipped,” says United Community Bank President and Chief Executive Officer Mike Riché. “We’ve built our community bank on relationships, and hope that this new location will allow us to expand on those relationships.”

The new branch will also feature additional drive-thru lanes and an adjoining PJ’s Coffee, which will encourage bank patrons to incorporate in-person banking into their everyday routine. The overarching goal of the redesign is to create a warm and inviting space that bank customers will enjoy visiting.

The PJ’s Coffee location will be operated by Jeremy Griffin. Griffin is a native of Houma, LA, who currently operates a PJ’s location on St. Charles Street in his hometown and was recently name PJ’s Franchisee of the Year.

The building will be entirely new, rather than a renovation. While renovation was considered, concerns over traffic impediment and constraints presented by the existing structure necessitated a tear-down.

“We looked at many different scenarios to improve our East Bayou Road location, but in the end our only viable solution was to start from the ground up,” said Riché.

During the construction, the bank’s customers will be directed to a nearby branch at 801 St. Mary St. in Thibodaux.
