Terrebonne, Lafourche Parishes Push For Daily Rail Service

HOUMA, LA (AP) — Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes are pushing for daily rail service between New Orleans and Houston.
Amtrak's Sunset Limited Passenger Rail Line runs three times a week from New Orleans to Houston with stops in Schriever, New Iberia, Lafayette and Lake Charles
Jeffrey Leuenberger, a senior planner with Lafourche Parish, tells The Courier’s Meredith Burns government and private-sector officials are solidifying a coalition to show interest in expanding the service.
The Lafourche and Terrebonne parish councils passed resolutions to join the coalition and support a feasibility study for the expanded service.
According to Amtrak's figures, there were roughly 1,800 passengers serviced by the Schriever stop in 2013.
