Teacher Residency Partnership Between Xavier, 5 Local Charter Orgs Announced

NEW ORLEANS – New Schools for New Orleans is funding the launch of a partnership between Xavier University of New Orleans and 5 local charter management organizations: Choice Foundation Schools, FirstLine Schools, InspireNOLA, KIPP New Orleans, and New Orleans College Prep. The schools will provide K-12 teacher residents with on-going support and coaching from mentor teachers, while Xavier University will provide access to coursework and a pathway to certification.
         The announcement was made today at 10:00 a.m. at the Xavier University Convocation Annex, 7800 Washington Ave., Room 111.
         Scheduled to attend the announcement were Dr. Norman Francis, Dr. Renee Akbar Chair of the Division of Education and Counseling, Maggie Runyan-Shefa Co-CEO New Schools for New Orleans, Patrick Dobard RSD Superintendent, Dr. Henderson Lewis OPSB Superintendent, plus many other education leaders
         This will be an additional pipeline of diverse, locally trained teachers (25-40 residents initially), predominantly Xavier University seniors and recent alumni. Many of these students are from New Orleans or Louisiana.
