STEDF Announces 2015 Workforce Development Series

MANDEVILLE, LA – The St. Tammany Economic Development Foundation (STEDF) will host a seven-part series examining workforce development beginning in April and lasting through November. Area business leaders interested in or involved with workforce development in St. Tammany are invited to attend.

         Brenda Bertus, CEO of STEDF, said, “Last year, our five-part series saw great success, engaging 33 businesses and thought leaders across the region and the state. Thanks to our enthusiastic speakers and participants, the series addressed issues ranging from local workforce needs to re-entry programs for offenders.”

         The purpose of the Workforce Development Series is to share relevant workforce development information regarding St. Tammany, the Greater New Orleans region and the state of Louisiana with business leaders, community representatives and economic development partners in the area.

         Ashley Cangelosi Llewellyn, programs manager for STEDF, said, “We hope this series will increase your knowledge of workforce opportunities, connect you to resources for workforce enhancement and training and provide insight about the future needs and trends of the workforce in our region.”

         The 2015 series events will focus on industry specific conversations according to the following schedule:

 

• April 28: Healthcare and Biosciences

• May 19: Manufacturing

• June 23: Digital Media

• July 14: Construction and Coastal Restoration

• Sept. 22: Energy, Oil and Gas

• Oct. 13: Education and Training – Jump Start, Two-Year- and Four-Year-Colleges

• Nov. 10: To be determined

 

         All events will be held on Tuesdays from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. in the STEDF conference room. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. Participants must register for each session as enrollment opens in the month prior.

         STEDF leads economic development in St. Tammany Parish, attracting new businesses and employment opportunities to the area. The organization seeks to improve parish residents’ quality of life by strengthening and supporting the business climate.
