RSD, OPSB, Einstein Charter School Announce Groundbreaking For New Sherwood Forest School

NEW ORLEANS – The Recovery School District (RSD), Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB), and Einstein Charter School will celebrate a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Sherwood Forest School building today, Wednesday, April 29, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at the Sherwood Forest Elementary School Site located at 4801 Maid Marion Dr., New Orleans.

         Funding for this project has been provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. 

         The School Facilities Master Plan guides this project, and others, for Orleans Parish, an unprecedented school construction program launched as a result of the devastating impact of Hurricane Katrina.

         The $1.8 billion plan, approved in November 2008 by the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Orleans Parish School Board, is the first major facilities plan for Orleans Parish schools since 1952.

         Those scheduled to attend today’s groundbreaking event include:

• Kira Orange Jones, District 2 Member, LA Board of Elementary and Secondary Education

• Kathleen Padian, Deputy Superintendent, Orleans Parish School Board

• James Gray, Councilmember, District E

• Shawn Toranto, CEO, Einstein Charter Schools

• Lauren Jacobson, President, Board of Directors, Einstein Charter Schools

• Austin Badon, Louisiana State Representative, District 100

• Marcus Johnson, Community Liaison, Office of U. S. Senator David Vitter

• Mark Zelden, Southeast Regional Director, Office of U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy

• Sam Joel, Office of Mayor Mitch Landrieu

• Mike Riley, Deputy Director, GOHSEP

• Mike Womack, Director, FEMA's Louisiana Recovery Office
