Public Can Vote For New Orleans Film To Win American Institute Of Architect's ‘People's Choice Award’
NEW ORLEANS – One New Orleans film is eligible to win the 2017 People's Choice Award for the American Institute of Architect’s (AIA) third annual “I Look Up Film” challenge.
The AIA invites the public to cast its vote to choose the winner, and this year “The Hangout” illustrates how architects are creating a safe environment in the Lower Ninth Ward. The short film focuses on a play area where the community can go and interact with each other.
The People's Choice Award winner will be announced on Nov. 1 and receive $2,500, an exclusive screening at the Architecture & Design Film Festival in New York City, plus recognition and distribution on AIA channels.
Public voting has launched and will conclude on Oct. 6.
This year’s challenge looked to architects and filmmakers to shine a light on the powerful social impact of architects and their work. In collaboration with clients and the community, architects plant the seeds that blossom into stronger neighborhoods, towns and cities, reps said.
AIA New Orleans includes more than 600 members representing 193 firms or organizations and offers high quality professional development for members, peer engagement opportunities that build a strong network and professional community of architects, and public awareness and advocacy activities related to quality design in the built environment, reps said.
Working in collaboration with the New Orleans Architecture Foundation (NOAF), AIA New Orleans operates out of the Center for Architecture and Design, the venue in downtown New Orleans that houses its offices and hosts many AIA- and NOAF-related events.
