New Orleans To Host College Football Playoff National Championship in 2020
ROSEMONT, IL – The College Football Playoff (CFP) announced today that Atlanta, the Bay Area (Santa Clara, CA) and New Orleans will host the College Football Playoff National Championship in 2018, 2019 and 2020.
The CFP management committee made the decision this morning in Chicago, culminating a 10-month process. Nine communities participated in the bid process including Atlanta, the Bay Area, Charlotte, Detroit, Houston, Minnesota, New Orleans, San Antonio and South Florida.
“It is an exciting day for the College Football Playoff,” said Bill Hancock, executive director of the CFP. “This was an extremely competitive process among the nine wonderful communities. We were pleased and honored by the time and energy that the people in all of the cities put into their bids. Atlanta, the Bay Area and New Orleans have much to offer and will welcome the participating teams and fans with warm support and exceptional facilities. We look forward to bringing college football’s showcase event to these three communities.”
Atlanta will host the 2018 national championship game at the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium, January 8, 2018. Santa Clara will host the 2019 national championship game at Levi’s Stadium, January 7, 2019. New Orleans will host the 2019 national championship game at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, January 13, 2020.
These will be the fourth, fifth and sixth national championship games of the College Football Playoff era. Glendale, Arizona, will host the second game January 11, 2016. Tampa, Florida, will host the third game January 9, 2017. The first game was at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, January 12, 2015.
