New Orleans’ Stylish Side

Showcasing high-end runway shows, exhibitions and pop-up boutiques, 3,500-plus fashionistas will converge on New Orleans to check out the latest talents from the Gulf Coast region during New Orleans Fashion Week (NOFW).

The New Orleans Board of Trade will be home to NOFW from March 21 to 28, hosting a series of events, including more than 50 runway shows. This relatively new event has been catching the attention of fashion hotspots, like New York City.

“It is exciting that people in New York are taking note of what we are doing here,” says Tracee Dundas, creative director of New Orleans Fashion Week. “It is mainly people who have a Southern connection, or people who are intrigued by New Orleans.”

Designers, models, and make-up artists are coming from throughout the South to be part of NOFW – an event which provides both an industry-driven and consumer-friendly atmosphere that Dundas says reaches a wide audience.

“At NOFW we will see edgy urban looks and we will also see Southern soft cotton breezy looks as well, which appeals to very different crowds,” she says.

Attendees to NOFW can visit, talk with designers and shop at the Style Lounge, a marketplace in the exterior courtyard of the New Orleans Board of Trade. The Style Lounge will be open March 25 to 27 starting at 5 p.m., two hours before the runway shows begin at 7 p.m.

“Style Lounge is a marketplace for designers who can’t showcase as easily on the runway,” she says. “This gives them an opportunity to show their merchandise, which is mainly jewelry designers and things for men such as bowties and pocket squares.”

Fashion Career Day, an all-day event that provides students with the opportunity to gain invaluable experience and exposure to the industry’s leading designers and professionals, will take place at Lakeside Shopping Center in Metairie on March 27 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration is $50.
