Aug. 7 – TRADE SPEAKER SERIES — Myron Gray, president of U.S. operations for UPS, will discuss the role of leadership being changed by the rise of a new economy, new era of transforming technology and individual power and expectation as part of the World Trade Center of New Orleans' Executive Speaker Series, 8:30 a.m. Location: Westin New Orleans Canal Place, 11th Floor, Crescent Ballroom, 100 Rue Iberville St., New Orleans.


Aug. 7 – LSU – SUMMER COMMENCEMENT — About 688 students are expected to graduate during LSU's summer commencement ceremony. Belle Wheelan, president of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, is the keynote speaker, 9:00 a.m. Location: LSU, Pete Maravich Assembly Center, Baton Rouge.


Aug. 7 – LOUISIANA – LAFAYETTE – SUMMER COMMENCEMENT — Undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degree diplomas will be conferred during the University of Louisiana at Lafayette's Summer 2015 Commencement ceremony. Dr. Chan Kiat Lim, associate professor in the College of the Arts at Louisiana-Lafayette, will be the keynote speaker, 11:00 a.m. Location: Convention Center (next to the Cajundome), Exhibit Hall B, 1st Floor, Lafayette.


Aug. 7 – Aug. 8 – BAPTISTS – KATRINA — 250 Baptist volunteers from 28 churches, colleges and universities in 20 states and Puerto Rico volunteer in New Orleans' Lower 9th Ward to mark 10 years since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Dedication ceremony of completed project, 2:30 p.m. Location: 5620 Florida Ave., New Orleans.




Aug. 8 – WILDLIFE EVENT — A "Wood Stork and Wading Bird Event" will be held within the South Farm area of Sherburne Wildlife Management Area. The South Farm area is located in Iberville Parish and accessible via I-10. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are hosting the event from 7:00 a.m. to noon. Wood storks and other wading and shore birds are readily visible at this time due to the management provided by Wildlife Division staff.


Aug. 8 – BACK-TO-SCHOOL — Baton Rouge Area Violence Elimination presents a Back-to-School Extravaganza for youth of all ages, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Location: Family and Youth Service Center, 1120 Government St., Baton Rouge.

Aug. 8 – SEAFOOD COOK-OFF — Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne and the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board host the 12th annual Great American Seafood Cook-off in which 12 chefs from throughout the U.S. vie for the title, 11:45 a.m. Location: Morial Convention Center, New Orleans.

Aug. 9 – Aug. 16 – KAPPA ALPHA PSI — Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. holds its 82nd grand chapter meeting/ conclave in New Orleans through Aug. 16. More than 6,000 are scheduled to participate.
