New Breast Surgical Oncologist, Alfred John Colfry III, M.D. Joins Crescent City Physicians, Inc.

NEW ORLEANS – Crescent City Physicians, Inc. (CCPI), a subsidiary of Touro Infirmary, announced that Alfred John Colfry III, M.D. has joined the group as a Breast Surgical Oncologist.
He is a Fellowship trained Oncologist from M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Colfry to our physician group, which means that Louisiana now has another option for quality medical care in breast surgical oncology,” said Larry Balyeat, Senior Vice President.
Dr. Colfry is a New Orleanian and graduated from Jesuit High School. He went on to Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA, where he graduated in Biology and he attended medical school at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, LA. He has extensive Postgraduate Training at Atlanta Medical Center in Atlanta, GA, as a General Surgery Resident and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, as a Breast Surgical Oncology Fellow.
Dr. Colfry specializes in surgical treatment for breast cancer including lumpectomy, mastectomy, breast conservation techniques and oncoplastic surgery. During his fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, he mastered innovative surgical techniques such as radioactive seed localized lumpectomy.
He also manages benign breast disease as well as high-risk breast cancer patients.
Dr. Colfry has contributed to multiple publications on breast cancer in peer-reviewed journals on the following topics: neoadjuvant chemotherapy, axillary surgery, male breast cancer, pregnancy associated breast cancer, occult breast cancer, surgery in stage IV disease, and racial discrepancies in breast cancer. Most recently he authored a chapter in a textbook on Ductal Carcinoma in Situ.

CCPI is a subsidiary of Touro Infirmary and has operated physician practices in the community since 1994. CCPI special services include primary care, obstetrics and gynecology, oncology, urology, cardiac and vascular care, and cardiovascular and thoracic surgery. CCPI has 20 offices located throughout the Greater New Orleans Area with doctors located in Orleans and Jefferson Parishes.
