NABA, Inc. Webinar Tackles Ethics In The Workplace

Kelly Richmond Pope, Ph.D., CPA

NEW ORLEANS – Organizations are complex and often stressful. From the corporate world to the nonprofit landscape, organizations are often juggling a tremendous amount of pressure and sometimes policies can get pushed to the side. What would you do if your boss or co-worker asked you to do something unethical in order to be more efficient? How would you handle it? Who would you tell if anyone at all?

The National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. (NABA, Inc.) is hosting a webinar on Thursday, July 13, from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., that will explore these questions and the science behind ethical decision-making and the importance of following your gut when stressful decisions.

The session speaker is Dr. Kelly Richmond Pope, associate professor of accounting at DePaul University and founder of Helios Digital Learning, Inc. Dr. Pope will pull from her fraud research and experiences interviewing white-collar offenders, whistle-blowers and victims of fraud to offer this interactive webinar.

She is a recognized expert in the forensic accounting field and has conducted forensic accounting seminars around the world for universities, corporations and governmental entities including the United States Securities and Exchange Commission and the Securities Commission Malaysia.

Dr. Pope is the creator and executive producer of the award winning educational white-collar crime documentary “Crossing the Line: Ordinary People Committing Extraordinary Crime.” Her in-process documentary, “All the Queen’s Horses,” which chronicles the largest municipal fraud in U.S. history, was selected to participate in the Tribeca Film Institute Industry Market forum in 2016. She was also selected by the TED Ed team to develop a teaching lesson on “How People Rationalize Fraud,” which can be found on the TED Ed website.

Dr. Pope is a board member of the Illinois CPA Society, a member of the Economic Club of Chicago and serves of the finance committee for Mercy Hospital. Additionally, she serves on the Governing Council of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) for a 3-year term.
