Methanex Cranks Up Second Methanol Plant In Geismar

GEISMAR, LA (AP) — Methanex Corp. has successfully produced methanol at its second Geismar plant, three months ahead of the original schedule.
The Advocate reports the Geismar 2 plant, which was moved from Chile, will be able to produce 1.1 million tons of methanol a year. Methanex began production at Geismar 1, which has the same production capacity, in January.
Methanol is used in a variety of products from windshield wiper fluid to gasoline blends. The liquid is made primarily from natural gas.
Methanex is a Vancouver-based, publicly traded company and is the world's largest producer and supplier of methanol to major international markets.
