Mayor Landrieu Issues Statement On Expansion Of Medicaid In LA

NEW ORLEANS – Mayor Mitch Landrieu released the following statement in response to Governor John Bel Edwards issuance of an executive order to expand Medicaid in Louisiana.
“Expansion of Medicaid coverage to more than 300,000 uninsured Louisianans is absolutely essential to protecting the health and wellbeing of Louisiana’s working families. Governor John Bel Edwards should be applauded for making access to healthcare and bringing our federal tax dollars back home his first order of business. Tens of thousands of New Orleanians are caught in an unfortunate trap of working hard but still not being able to afford private health insurance. Expanding Medicaid coverage will create a healthier workforce and a stronger, more prosperous city and state. I look forward to working with the Governor and the State to ensure that New Orleanians that are eligible are able to participate in the Medicaid expansion.”
