NEW ORLEANS — Following a decade of growth, students at Loyola University New Orleans are eagerly launching today the university’s Tenth Annual Student Peace Conference, an opportunity for students and visitors to further community discussion about hope, renewal and global peace. Titled “Breaking Walls,” this year’s one-week event is expected to be the largest student peace conference ever held at this Jesuit, Catholic University. The conference runs Tuesday, April 10 through Tuesday, April 17. All events will be held on Loyola’s main campus, 6363 St. Charles Ave. and are free and open to the public.

The annual peace conference organized by Loyola’s students includes two Presidential speakers, interactive lectures, panel discussions of prominent members of civil society and local activists, student presentations, an interactive trailer exhibition by Doctors without Borders, and a Jazz Concert performed by Loyola students.

On Friday, April 13 at 3 p.m., in an important show of solidarity, members of the local Sunni and Shi’a communities will perform a common prayer for peace in Loyola’s Peace Quad emphasizing on the need for peace between these two distinct Muslim communities and recognizing the importance of Jerusalem as the spiritual capital of the world.
