Loyola University Hosts ‘Life By The Drop: A Forum On Water Management In NOLA’
NEW ORLEANS – Next week, leading environmental experts, industry leaders and city officials will tackle challenging questions about water systems in our area as Loyola University New Orleans hosts “Life by the Drop: A Forum on Water Management in NOLA.”
Sponsored by the Environment Program and the Center for the Study of New Orleans at Loyola University New Orleans, the sustainability forum, on Thursday, Sept. 28, in Nunemaker Auditorium, Monroe Hall, third floor, 6363 St. Charles Ave., from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., is free and open to the public.

• City of New Orleans’ chief resilience officer Jeffrey P. Hebert
• New Orleans’ assistant inspector General Nadiene Van Dyke
• Urban & landscape architect J. David Waggonner III
• Loyola College of Law professor Robert R. M. Verchick
• Loyola urban historian Eric M. Hardy (moderator)
New Orleanians are frequently reminded of the vulnerability of the water systems upon which their health and safety depend, organizers said. Coastal erosion, inadequate drainage, unreliable power generation and the potential for lead exposure are among the most visible reminders of the challenges to comprehensive water management that our city’s leaders face.
Concerned residents are encouraged to attend the forum for a discussion on water infrastructure rehabilitation, administrative reform and resiliency planning in New Orleans and its environs.
“During this panel discussion, we will look holistically at all the ways New Orleanians interact with water – what are the vulnerabilities, the challenges and the potential positives for managing our water systems,” said Dr. Craig Hood, director of the Environment Program at Loyola. “Delivery of clean water that is safe, effective drainage and management of impacts of tropical storms, what are the challenges and what do we need to do to build resilience into all of these systems, which are important work of the city?”
