Lower Mississippi River (LMR) Dredging Update 12516 (Bonnet Carre' Operations)

Please be advised that the present draft reductions in Southwest Pass are critical and could indeed become more stringent.  The Bar Pilot draft reduction to 43 feet was required before the River crested at New Orleans (or below) and historically draft restrictions related to flood events usually occur when the stages have started to fall.  The Coalition has been working closely with the Corps and dredging contractors to ensure all options were being considered: the extension of the NEWPORT’s contract, arrival of the McFARLAND and contract agreement for the G.D. MORGAN have been achieved through the efforts of the Corps and dredging contractors.

The Corps has begun to close bays on the Bonnet Carre’ Spillway with 10 bays expected to be closed today.  The Corps may indeed adjust the number of bays being closed based on the river flow measurements and anticipated rain events.
