Louisiana Connections Academy Virtual School To Host Session In Metairie Monday
METAIRIE, LA – Louisiana Connections Academy, a free, statewide virtual K-12 school, has opened enrollment for the 2016-2017 school year and is holding an information session in Metairie on Monday, April 4, 2016, at The Best Western Plus Landmark Hotel, 2601 Severn Ave., in Metairie, from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
The school is inviting prospective families to attend in-person information sessions to review the school’s curriculum, programs and provide opportunities to ask questions of teachers and currently enrolled families.
The school also offers online information sessions for families unable to attend in person.
Since 2013, LACA has increased its School Performance Score in the state report card resulting in a six-year extension of its charter by the Louisiana Department of Education. DOE graded Louisiana Connections Academy as the top academic performing virtual school among schools offering an online curriculum.
According to a survey, 38 percent of families who chose to enroll at LACA felt the need for an alternative local public school and 96 percent of all LACA parents would recommend the school to other families.
Marketing/ Parent Outreach Coordinator Shelly Centanni said the top reasons parents choose a virtual charter, like LACA, for their children, are:
• The student requires or wants greater flexibility
• The student wants a change from their local school
• The student wants a safe learning environment
"Sometimes students need a break from the traditional brick-and-mortar setting and find that a virtual public charter school can help them catch up or take a break from the day-to-day peer pressures of school," said Centanni. "We provide a change of mindset."
More than a quarter of a million American students in grades K-12 get their education virtually. Louisiana Connections Academy is open to students from every parish in Louisiana.
The school recently opened its new headquarters in Baton Rouge at 4664 Jamestown Ave. but enrollment is open to students throughout the state.
Pre-registration is not required to attend the information sessions, but parents can register for any of the free sessions here.
