CHALMETTE, LA – The St. Bernard Chamber of Commerce is currently accepting applications for its third class of the highly regarded Leadership St. Bernard. Leadership St. Bernard has emerged as an innovative program aiming to better educate and engage citizens in identifying needs, resources, and opportunities for St. Bernard Parish.

“Leadership St. Bernard is an incredible opportunity to learn and network with people that share the same goal – to make St. Bernard a better place,” explains Barry Lemoine, LSB class of 2015. “I understand better the workings of our local government, the need for us all to think regionally, and the power of positive people.”

Since its conception just two years ago, Leadership St. Bernard has provided a forum that motivates and increases the awareness of civic leaders by giving them an intense course which encompasses a broad scope of community concerns. Class Topics include regional perspectives, quality of life issues, culture and tourism, education, industry, economic and community development, state governmental affairs, and St. Bernard Parish Government.

At its core, Leadership St. Bernard hopes to help cultivate and strengthen both future and current leaders so that they can best represent St. Bernard as well as the metro New Orleans region. Leadership St. Bernard has successfully produced more active and informed citizens through education and class project coordination, including St. Bernard Day at the Capital. Founding Chairwoman, Kerri Callais, feels graduates leave the program prepared to take their civic involvement to the next level. “Not only do you have the opportunity to hear from the most influential leaders in the region, but there is no better way to truly understand the challenges and opportunities that St. Bernard currently faces,” Callais said.

Participation is open to any individual who resides or works in St. Bernard Parish; however, the number of participants accepted is limited. Applications to Leadership St. Bernard will be accepted until Friday, October 30. Leadership classes and events run from November 12, 2015, until May 19, 2016, and include an opening orientation, a class project, and a class graduation.
