BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) elected its board officers for 2021.

The members unanimously elected District 3 BESE elected board member Sandy Holloway as president, District 2 elected board member Kira Orange Jones as vice president, and District 5 elected board member Ashley Ellis as secretary and treasurer.  This marks the first time that the State’s top education board has elected an all-women officer slate in its 46-year history.

“I am honored to be able to fulfill this role during these unprecedented times when our students, families, and educators deserve strong leadership,” said Orange Jones. “I also hope that the thousands of young girls in our schools today see that anything is possible for them if three strong women can be leading our state’s education system through a period of important transformation.”
