Inside the Industry: Banking

First NBC Bank

Throughout his life and career, Ashton J. Ryan, Jr. has had a knack for identifying financial opportunity. After earning an MBA from Tulane University, Ryan worked for a CPA firm before quickly making partner. Specializing in bank audits and acquisitions, he was sought for his expertise and eventually hired by First Commerce Corporation, the holding company that owned First NBC Bank as well as other banks across Louisiana. Though Ryan left the company upon its merger with Bank One in 1998, the vision and values of First NBC never left his heart.

In 2005 Ryan decided to start a new bank in the New Orleans region, and with those values in mind, he resurrected First NBC. Amidst the uncertainty introduced by Hurricane Katrina, Ryan saw opportunity and raised the record for a new bank offering of $63 million. Today, First NBC has total assets of $4.3 billion, serving communities across the Southshore, Northshore, and now in Crestview, Florida.

First NBC is largely focused on commercial lending and is well known as being a bank that truly works with customers. Exceptional personal service is what sets First NBC apart from other banks and community lenders.

“We understand customers’ needs and do the best we can to bring them resources that improve their financial assets and liabilities. We give them an opportunity to grow their business and do well,” says Ryan. “We work together to achieve their goals, and ours follow along behind.”
