Girl Scouts Louisiana East Announces Honorees Thomas, Nungesser, Zeno For Juliette Low Leadership Luncheon, Benefit

Outstanding Woman Award Recipient Dr. Cynthia Thomas, president of Dominican High School

NEW ORLEANS— Girl Scouts Louisiana East will host its first Juliette Low Leadership Luncheon on Tuesday, Oct. 31, at the Audubon Tea Room, 6500 Magazine St. All proceeds will help the local council offer its leadership development program to girls across southeast Louisiana.

The fundraising luncheon will celebrate outstanding individuals, businesses and organizations that exemplify the legacy of Girl Scouts of the USA’s founder, Juliette Low, on the anniversary of her birth, which falls on Halloween. Low outgrew the trappings of an upper-class society life to create an organization for young women, and integrated leadership, self-confidence, responsibility, integrity, decision-making, teamwork, outdoor skills, philanthropy and equality for all. The luncheon will also recognize a Girl Scout volunteer who impacts the greater community with the Minnie Finley Award.

This year’s awards and recipients include, the Outstanding Woman Award, Dr. Cynthia Thomas, president of Dominican High School; Outstanding Man Award, Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser; Outstanding Business/Foundation Award, Albemarle Foundation; Outstanding Business/Educators Award, Girls In STEM (GIST) at Tulane University and the Minnie Finley Award, Margie Loud Zeno.

“The award recipients were selected based on the positive impact they have on the children in our communities” said Jackie Daniels, a member of the luncheon committee, along with Toya Brown-Robertson, Mary Jane Becker and Genny May. “Each recipient has not only supported Girl Scouts, but they have empowered girls and women of the New Orleans community, in general.”

A champagne reception begins at 11:00 a.m. with lunch from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. Tickets are $60 per person before Sunday, Oct. 15 and $75 per person thereafter.

         Sponsors opportunities are available.
