Get Started Medical Seeks Next Greatest Health-Related Invention

 

NEW ORLEANS — Start-ups, entrepreneurs and small business owners who think they might have the next greatest medical idea, product or service are invited to apply to the Get Started Medical pitch contest for a chance to win a $2,500 prize.

Get Started Medical will take place on Thursday, August 30 in front of a panel of judges at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Student Union Atchafalaya Grand Ballroom. The event is sponsored by Cox Business in partnership with Accelerate South and Lafayette General Foundation.

“We are excited to showcase innovation and talent in the medical field, while also offering business owners advice and tips to help them launch and grow their products,” said Leigh King, vice president of Cox Business Louisiana. “Get Started Medical is geared to those entrepreneurs ready to take their medical business ideas to the next level. The winning concept may just be the next greatest life-saving invention.”

Candidates interested in pitching their idea can apply online from now through 11:59 p.m. CST Sunday, July 15 at https://www.f6s.com/acceleratesouth/.  

Ten finalists will be chosen to pitch to a panel of judges in front of a live audience, and the winning business will win a $2,500 cash prize.

Contestants will be given two-and-a-half minutes each to pitch their idea. Monte Danos, director of marketing for Cox Business, will be the host of Get Started Medical.  He will be joined by a panel of judges who will follow up with questions and observations:

Mike Braham – Vice President and General Manager, Trapollo
Rajesh Shetye – Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer, LHC Group
Blaise Zuschlag – Director of Administration, Acadian Companies 
Casey Hoyt – Co-founder, VieMed
Cian Robinson – Executive Director, Lafayette General Foundation

These experts will review each of the plans and select a winner based on innovation, ease of implementation and consumer/community benefit.

Entrants will be notified by Thursday, Aug. 2 if they have been selected to pitch at the event. The 10 finalists will receive coaching sessions each in advance of the event to prepare provided by Accelerate South.
