Xplore Federal Credit Union
With 75 years of service, the company now known to New Orleans businesses and residents as Xplore Federal Credit Union has seen exponential growth since becoming a community charter credit union in 2013. From asset growth to an expansion of commercial lending products, the company has come a long way since its early days of providing financial services specifically for New Orleans Shell Oil Company employees. Today, Xplore FCU serves over 8,000 members through three local branches, advanced e-services,
and a Co-Op Shared Branch network.
How have you maintained a sense of company culture? Has it changed?
Throughout my career and life, I’ve found that it is vitally important to understand and incorporate multiple viewpoints with our decisions.
There is often more than one way to approach an issue, so it’s imperative that we remain flexible in our day-to-day activities. By incorporating different ideas shared by members and staff, we open ourselves and our financial institution to options that help to foster a creative and productive work environment. This shared belief between myself and Xplore is one of the many reasons I chose to join the Xplore team.
In what ways are you thriving and pushing forward as a business?
In these times of uncertainty, financial decisions can be tough to navigate. At Xplore, we understand that oftentimes, the best way we can help is by simply being present. As we embrace the challenges ahead, Xplore remains committed to providing solutions to these challenges by working jointly with our members and community. We are focusing on expanding our resources so that Xplore is in a position to be an institution that is “big enough to help, yet small enough to care.” We are also actively increasing our physical presence by adding additional locations to our area. Are there any new technologies or methodologies you’ve recently embraced?
As the financial landscape changes, Xplore continues to adjust to meet the needs of its member base. I’m proud to say that the Xplore team has quickly embraced the newest technologies at our disposal that keep us connected with our members. How we connect, of course, remains the decision of our members, so we provide options to suit each preference. Members can easily contact an Xplore team member in person and/or via third-party applications.
One of our newest additions, Xplore Away, is a free service that allows members to contact our team via kiosk at a local branch or from the comfort of their own home through their laptop or mobile device. Xplore Away provides members the flexibility to safely and securely handle the vast majority of their financial needs, whether they’re miles away or right next door.
How does your addition to the team impact the credit union and the community?
The addition of business/commercial lending came to fruition like most things—out of necessity.
Our members made it clear that there was significant need for Commercial Lending, and as a result, the Xplore team sought to bring in someone that knew the community well and had the expertise to develop a line of business products to fit the needs of our local business owners.
As the Director of Commercial Lending, my priority is to develop a competitive product set to help local business owners throughout the various life stages of a business.
