Ecole Classique

Fourth Generation

In 1956, the late Mr. and Mrs. Sal Federico had a dream to open a school that would educate and prepare students of Greater New Orleans with a five-part mission to learn, to understand with wisdom the past, to challenge with vigor the future, to act and achieve in the way of civilized man, and to stand with honor for God and country.

Today, the Federico’s four children—and also one grandchild—serve the school in various administrative and teaching roles while also serving the community through civic involvement. In addition to jointly owning and operating this Pre-K – 12th grade school and to teaching, Greg Federico serves as Elementary Principal, David Federico as Secondary Principal, Julie Gernhauser as Admissions Director, and Gina Ney as Director of Preschool.

“Ecole Classique isn’t just a family business—it’s a family school,” says David. “It’s our goal to provide a comfortable environment for students where they feel like they are among family.” Having grown up with parents who were educators and having worked together for so long has allowed this group of siblings to seamlessly collaborate to prepare students to be happy, productive, and successful.

“I believe that Ecole Classique has thrived for 60+ years because of our dedication as educators,” says David. “We have an extremely dedicated faculty with very little turnover—our faculty are willing to put in the extra work to ensure their students succeed.”

According to David, the accomplishment of educating thousands of students and seeing them grow into productive citizens is a testament to his and his siblings’ parents and the fulfillment of their dream.
