John Deveney

NEW ORLEANS – The Plank Center for Leadership in Public Relations recently named DEVENEY president and CEO John Deveney, ABC, APR, Fellow PRSA, IABC Fellow, to the board of advisors. In his new role at The Plank Center, Deveney will tap into his vast professional tenure to help further the center’s mission of developing and recognizing outstanding diverse public relations leaders, role models and mentors to advance ethical public relations in an evolving, global society, reps said.

“We are thrilled to have John join the board,” said Keith Burton, founder and principal of Gayson Emmett Partners.  “I have admired John’s leadership from the time we served together on the Executive Committee of the Counselors Academy. His expertise will help us build on our mission by creating a more diverse and inclusive profession.”

The Plank Center’s board of advisors consists of leading academics and practitioners who provide counsel, direction and oversight to the center regarding strategic plans and programs to support its leadership mission.

“It is an absolute honor to be asked to serve on The Plank Center’s board of advisors,” said Deveney. “As an avid supporter of the center, our team has hosted educator fellows for the past four years, so we’ve really been able to see firsthand the positive impact the center has on PR professionals and the industry landscape as a whole.”

A seasoned leader and public relations pioneer, Deveney founded his own award-winning PR agency 21 years ago. In 2016, the internationally renowned firm evolved into a full-service engagement agency, maintaining its position as an industry innovator and once again garnering prestigious awards for excellence in marketing and communication from leaders in the field.

Deveney has previously served on the executive committee of the Public Relations Society of America Counselors Academy and has the distinction of being among the select award winners honored at one of The Plank Center’s previous Milestones in Mentoring dinner. He is also the only professional to ever merit the lifetime achievement recognition of PRNews’ Hall of Fame, PRSA College of Fellows and IABC Fellows.
