DeSoto Parish Approves One-Time Supplement, Raises
MANSFIELD, LA (AP) — DeSoto Parish School District employees are in line for an extra check this month and a bump in pay next year, following a unanimous vote of the school board.
Vickie Welborn with The Shreveport Times reports the school board approved Thursday $1,000 for teachers and $500 for support staff in one-time checks to be issued October 25 and the like amount added to the salary scheduled in the 2014-15 fiscal year.
Officials say the school board is able to hand out the money because of increased Minimum Foundation Program funds, part of which is dedicated to teacher salaries. The board is covering the support staff payments from local funds. The total impact to the budget is $807,000.
