Delgado Hosting Groundbreaking For New Avondale Location

NEW ORLEANS – Delgado Community College will host groundbreaking ceremonies for the new Delgado River City site and the Advanced Manufacturing Center of Excellence in Avondale on Friday, May 29, 2015, at 10:00 a.m.

         “We are pleased to announce the construction of these state-of-the-art educational facilities,” said Delgado Chancellor Joan Y. Davis. “The facilities will enable the regional workforce to attain the knowledge and skills needed to participate fully in the economic growth that is transforming the Greater New Orleans region at a rapid pace, and they will assist in that growth by providing a highly skilled workforce for the industries investing in our region,”

         The total investment in the project, including $24 million from state-issued bond sales, is $27.3 million. Of that total, $20 million is allocated to construction costs.

         The Delgado River City site will provide 85,000 square feet designed to accommodate training programs to support commerce along the Mississippi River including transportation/ logistics, marine engine, engineering and automotive technology in the growing area of West Jefferson Parish.

         The Advanced Manufacturing Center of Excellence is a response to the demands of business and industry for a skilled workforce. The facility will create a sustainable long-term solution to critical workforce shortages and provide a pipeline of skilled workers to expand current and future business operations in welding, precision machining, electrical/ electronics engineering technology, electronics service technology and industrial maintenance.

         More than 3,000 students will be served at the new Delgado location.

         The site is near the Jefferson Parish Economic Development Commission (JEDCO) and the Patrick F. Taylor Science and Technology Academy at 701 Churchill Parkway in Avondale.
