Delgado Community College’s ‘Right Path’ Project Awarded $2.1 Million from U.S. Department of Education

NEW ORLEANS – Delgado Community College has been awarded an over $2.1 Million Title III grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The grant, to be received over five years, addresses Delgado’s commitment to improving student success through enhanced academic advising. The announcement was made in a press release.

Delgado’s Title III project, “Staying on the Right Path,” will improve the student experience at the college by creating pathways for student success that lead to higher persistence and graduation rates. Title III grants are designed to strengthen schools receiving the funds.

“Student and graduate success is core to the mission of Delgado Community College,” said Dr. William Wainwright, Delgado chancellor. “Strategic investments and planning in advising of students will yield an incredible return in time to completion and strengthening our workforce.”

Specifically, the project will address three areas:

Expansion of the “Right Path” Quality Enhancement Plan that emphasizes student-centered, self-directed advising.
Full utilization of early alert and academic intervention software that identifies at-risk students and provides them with intrusive advising.
Implementation of degree auditing and tracking software that will allow all Delgado degree-seeking students to develop and monitor academic completion plans.

Delgado’s efforts at designing its “Staying on the Right Path” plan has been aligned to support the Louisiana Community and Technical Colleges System (LCTCS) strategic plan, “Our Louisiana 2020: Building the Workforce of Tomorrow,” including doubling the number of college graduates by 2020.
