Delgado Announces Opening of New Location in Avondale in August
New Orleans – A press release sent this week announced that the beginning of the Fall 2018 semester at Delgado Community College on Aug. 18 marks the opening of a brand-new Delgado location, the Delgado River City Site and Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Center, at Churchill Technology & Business Park in Avondale.
Ribbon-cutting ceremonies are scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 30, at 10 a.m.
The Delgado River City Site is designed to accommodate training programs to support commerce along the Mississippi River in the growing area of Jefferson Parish west of the Huey Long Bridge.
The Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Center at the new site is a response to the demands of business and industry for a skilled workforce. The facility is a sustainable long-term solution to critical workforce shortages and will provide a pipeline of skilled workers to expand current and future business operations.
The total investment in the 85,000-square-foot project is $27.3 million from state, federal and private sources. Of that total, $20 million is allocated to construction costs.
“These state-of-the-art facilities will enable the regional workforce to attain the knowledge and skills needed to participate fully in the economic growth that is transforming the Greater New Orleans region at a rapid pace, and they will assist in that growth by providing a highly skilled workforce for the industries investing in our region,” said Delgado Community College Chancellor Joan Y. Davis.

The Delgado River City site is next to the Jefferson Parish Economic Development Commission (JEDCO) and Patrick F. Taylor Science and Technology Academy at 709 Churchill Parkway in Avondale. Access is via U.S. 90 and Lapalco Blvd. The site is approximately 20 minutes from downtown New Orleans.
