City Issues Parking Instructions, Traffic Restrictions For Weekend Events

NEW ORLEANS – The City of New Orleans issued parking instructions and reminders in advance of events for Friday, October 16 and Saturday, October 17, 2015.

         The public is encouraged to be patient and to prepare for heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the specified areas by making transportation arrangements accordingly.

TULANE UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL GAME

 

         Tulane University’s football game at Yulman Stadium on Tulane University’s main campus is scheduled for Friday, October 16, 2015, at 8:00 p.m.

         Beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, only vehicles with the proper permit will be allowed to access on the following streets until NOPD releases traffic after the game:

 

• Audubon Boulevard – In both directions from South Claiborne Avenue to Willow Street

• Ben Weiner Drive – Between South Claiborne Avenue and McAlister Extension Stadium Parking

 

         Yulman Stadium is located on Tulane University’s campus and borders South Claiborne Avenue, and offers restricted parking in the surrounding neighborhoods. Attendees driving to Yulman Stadium are encouraged to plan ahead before departing to the stadium.

 

         Taxi cab stands will be located in the 6500 block westbound of South Claiborne Avenue.

         The charter bus loading zone will be located in the 6200 and 6400 blocks of South Claiborne Avenue.

 

 

BIKE THE BIG EASY

 

         On Saturday, October 17, 2015, the inaugural Bike the Big Easy 20-mile and 40-mile bike-riding event will begin on Poydras Street near the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

         Between 7:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., the streets will close to vehicular traffic as the cyclists progress through the routes.

         The 20-mile route will begin on Poydras Street, turn on Loyola Avenue, turn on Rampart Street, turn on Esplanade Avenue, turn on Decatur Street, continue onto S. Peters Street, continue onto Convention Center, turn on Andrew Higgins Boulevard, turn on Tchoupitoulas Street, turn on Poydras Street, turn on St. Charles Avenue, turn on Carrolton Avenue, turn on Fountainbleau Avenue, turn on Octavia Street, turn on Jefferson Davis Boulevard, turn on Orleans Avenue, turn on Marconi Drive, turn on Harrison Avenue, turn on West End Boulevard, turn on Lakeshore Drive, turn on St. Bernard Avenue, turn on Robert E. Lee Boulevard, turn on Wisner Boulevard, turn on Orleans Avenue, turn on Galvez Street, turn on Poydras Street, and end at Champions Square at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

         The 40-mile bike route will begin on Poydras Street, turn on Loyola Avenue, turn on Rampart Street, turn on Esplanade Avenue, turn on Decatur Street, continue onto S. Peters Street, continue onto Convention Center, turn on Andrew Higgins Boulevard, turn on Tchoupitoulas Street, turn on Poydras Street, turn on St. Charles Avenue, turn on Carrolton Avenue, turn on Fountainbleau Avenue, turn on Octavia Street, turn on Jefferson Davis Boulevard, turn on Orleans Avenue, turn on Marconi Drive, turn on Harrison Avenue, turn on West End Boulevard, turn on Lakeshore Drive, turn on Leon C. Simon Drive, U-turn on Press Dress, turn on Elysian Fields Avenue, U-turn on Filmore Street, turn on Leon C. Simon Drive, turn on St. Bernard Avenue, turn on Robert E. FRERET 5K

 

         On Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 8:00 a.m., the Freret 5K Half Mile Race will depart from 4645 Freret St. and proceed on Freret Street to Valmont Street where it will U-turn and return to 4645 Freret St.

         The Freret 5K Race will depart from 4645 Freret St. to Jefferson Avenue, turn right on Jefferson Avenue to Story Street, U-turn at Story Street onto Jefferson Avenue, continuing river bound to Freret Street, turn right on Freret Street to Broadway Street, U-turn onto Freret Street continuing to 4645 Freret St. where the race will disband.

 

         Throughout the weekend, parking enforcement personnel will be monitoring for illegal parking, including blocking hydrants, driveways and sidewalks, or parking within 20 feet of a crosswalk, intersection or stop signs. Vehicles parking on the neutral ground are subject to a parking violation and seizure. Please note that vehicles parked in driveways must be clear of sidewalks or they will be ticketed or towed. Motorists are also reminded to park in the direction of travel on one-way streets, and with the right wheel to the curb on two-way streets.

         On-street parking of vehicles equipped with living accommodations is prohibited and will be enforced 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
