Chevron Honors Kean Miller With Diversity Award

NEW ORLEANS – The Chevron Corporation selected Kean Miller LLP as one of two recipients of the Chevron Law Function’s 13th annual Law Firm Diversity Award.

The award program, started in 2005, recognizes Chevron law firm partners that have distinguished themselves by demonstrating their commitment to diversity in the legal profession, and by fostering an inclusive work environment.

Chevron client team leaders Mike Phillips and Victor Gregoire, Kean Miller diversity council chair Jason Brown, and associate Claire Juneau accepted the award on behalf of the firm at a ceremony in Houston on July 19.  In recognition of this achievement, Chevron will make a $5,000 donation to City Year, split between City Year Baton Rouge and City Year New Orleans.

“Chevron is an industry-leader in diversity initiatives and inclusiveness,” said Blane Clark, managing partner of the 150-lawyer firm. “This leadership is evidenced by the company’s devotion to achieving a diverse workforce within Chevron’s strategic partner law firms. We are honored to be recognized for our work for the company and in the communities where we live and work.”

Kean Miller’s diversity and inclusion efforts were also recognized by Chevron in 2008 and 2010.

Kean Miller has recognized the value of diverse ethnic, cultural and racial backgrounds since its inception, firm reps said. The firm is committed to promoting a culture of inclusion, not only within its law practice, but in the communities where its attorneys and staff live and work, reps said. The best evidence of this commitment is found in the firm’s statistics.

Kean Miller has one of the highest percentages of women attorneys and women partners of any major law firm in Louisiana and rank among Louisiana firms having the highest percentages of minority attorneys, reps said. Currently the firm has 38 percent women attorneys and 13 percent minority attorneys. Among partners, 26 percent are women and 10 percent are minorities.

Kean Miller was recognized by the National Law Journal in its most recent NLJ 500 survey of the nation's largest law firms as one of the top 20 firms in the United States for women attorneys. The firm’s Women in Law score of 67.3 ranks it 145 spots ahead of its closest Louisiana-based competitor, and almost 200 spots ahead of some of the largest law firms based in the state.
