CEO Nuesslein Resigns 2 Days Before ILH/ UMC Transition

NEW ORLEANS – She was supposed to helm the new University Medical Center. Instead, she announced her resignation on Thursday, 2 days before the new hospital is supposed to open to the public.

According to The Advocate’s Jeff Adelson, Cindy Nuesslein will resign as CEO of UMC to take a position with an environmental design and engineering firm.

Adelson reports Nuesslein headed Interim LSU Hospital for the last 2 years and will start her new job a month after the hospital moves into the new $1.1 billion UMC facility in Mid-City this weekend.

Nuesslein said she would stay with UMC through August to help with the transition of moving patients and staff.

Greg Feirn, CEO of LCMC Health, who will run the new medical center, will serve as interim CEO of UMC while a national search is conducted to find Nuesslein’s replacement, Adelson reports.

Nuesslein is credited for leading the interim LSU Hospital's  successful transition from a state operation to a public-private partnership within a six-month period, and for reopening inpatient beds, expanding capacity in the Emergency Room and outpatient clinics, improving throughput and developing a management team to support future operations, including the relocation to the new UMC.
