Buku 2015 Music Fest Lineup Released
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Urban radio hit-maker A$AP Rocky and national electronic music stars Passion Pit, Bassnectar and Porter Robinson are scheduled to take the stage in New Orleans for the fourth annual Buku music festival in March.
The lineup was announced by organizers Tuesday. More than 30 acts are slated to perform.
As in years past, the Buku Music + Art Project will be held at Mardi Gras World, the studio and warehouse on the banks of the Mississippi River, where four stages will be set up inside and out along the river.
Headliners include G-Eazy, Flosstradamus and Robinson, a self-taught keyboard player from Chapel Hill, NC, who has been working to shed his disc jockey image and establish himself as a musician. He said his shows now include original vocals and use of the keyboard and drum pad.
"It's less crazy music," he said, adding that as a disc jockey, he would play whatever music got the crowd to its feet. "This is a different sound. It's music that's more subtle and has more nuances to it that audiences can appreciate."
Robinson said fans can expect to hear music from his recently released debut album of original tunes titled "Worlds."
"It's the most gratifying thing when you play live," he said. "I'm really looking forward to it."
Also on the roster is Louisiana native Torence Hatch, the rapper who went by the name Lil Boosie until changing it to Boosie Badazz after being released from prison this year on a 2009 drug conviction. His Buku debut will be his first major post-prison performance in New Orleans, where he has a strong fan base.
Tickets go on sale Friday.
