Blue Runner Plans to Provide 1 Million Meals to Second Harvest

NEW ORLEANS – From Blue Runner:

To assist New Orleans families in need during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, Blue Runner Foods is supplying 1 million meals of every Crescent City resident’s favorite Monday meal – red beans and rice – to Second Harvest Food Bank.

The 102-year-old New Orleans brand launched the major food donation campaign today by delivering 25,000 pounds of dry beans and rice to Second Harvest. Second Harvest serves 23 parishes across South Louisiana through various avenues including providing emergency boxes, delivering hot meals to seniors in need, sending food to agency partners and food pantries, and to distribute directly through their mobile pantries.

Along with today’s donation of 100,000 meals, Blue Runner Foods is asking for the community’s support to increase contributions to Second Harvest Food Bank. Those wishing to contribute can visit the giving campaign at https://no-hunger.org/bluerunner. All contributions will go directly to Second Harvest Food Bank and every dollar contributed will feed a family of four.

“This crisis is affecting everyone from restaurant workers to hotel workers to small business owners and everyone in between,” said Blue Runner Foods president Ricky Thomas. “We believe those in a position to help should pitch in, so we’re doing what we can by donating product to help feed the people of New Orleans.”
