NEW ORLEANS — Acme Brick has selected Masonry Products Sales Inc. to market its residential brick line in nine southeast Louisiana parishes.

The move comes after Acme closed its brickyard and showroom in St. Rose last year. The increased cost of shipping product from manufacturing facilities in other states is one likely factor.

The Texas-based company, which is owned by Berkshire Hathaway, has other active showrooms nationwide.

The Masonry Products sales area includes Jefferson, Orleans, St. Charles, St. Bernard, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Plaquemines, St. John the Baptist and Washington parishes. The distributor will sell Acme’s complete residential brick product line, although some items will only be available via special order.

“Acme Brick is a top-quality manufacturer of brick founded in 1891,” said Ron Foster, Masonry Products owner, in a press release. “We are very gratified and proud that Acme made this decision and we will do everything we can to satisfy customers who want to continue using their products.”

Acme joins seven other major brick manufacturers that are marketed by Masonry Products Sales. These include Beldon, Cherokee, Columbus/General Shale, Kentwood, Old Carolina, Old Texas and U.S. Brick.

Masonry Products Sales has been serving residential and commercial builders, contractors, tradespeople and owners since 1954. Joe Ward and Bill Foster began as brick masons who supplied the materials for their own jobs. Ron Foster, son of one of the original founders, runs the business today. It has showrooms and brickyards in Mid-City and Mandeville.
