Advisory Group Named For Pension Fund

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Mayor Mitch Landrieu has appointed a committee to recommend changes to the way the retirement system for New Orleans firefighters is managed.

Nola.com/ The Times-Picayune's Richard Rainey reports the working group created by a Landrieu executive order will be active for one year. The city and firefighters have fought for years over management of the system.

The group is made up of city officials, firefighter representatives and business leaders.

Members include New Orleans Chief Administrative Officer Andy Kopplin, Councilwoman Stacy Head, Fire Superintendent Timothy McConnell, fire pension board director Paul Mitchell Jr., fire pension board secretary-treasurer Thomas Meager III, New Orleans Fire Fighters Association Local 632 president Nick Felton, accountant Hardy Fowler, insurance professional Scott Jacobs and JPMorgan Chase & Co. vice president Greg Rattler Jr.

The New Orleans Business Council will pay for independent consultants and additional technical assistance. Its chairman, Paul Flower, will also chair the pension advisory group.

The group is designed as for a strictly advisory role, but could help Landrieu press his argument that the city should control the state-created pension fund.
