The celebration will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, at the Civic Theatre located at 510 O'Keefe Ave.
The awards ceremony will honor millennials in 19 diverse categories, including healthcare, engineering, journalism, film, innovation and music. The public submitted more than 200 nominations that were judged by a panel of local millennials, which included past winners and distinguished members of the community. Notable finalists this year include: Edgar Chase, IV, chef/owner at Dook's Place; PJ Morton, R&B singer/songwriter and founder at Morton Records; Ethan Ashley, director of community engagement at Urban League Greater New Orleans; and Hartley Wasser, director of editorial and content marketing at New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation among others.
The awards show will also feature the crowd favorite "Best Millennial Restaurant Competition" presented by Yelp. This year's participating restaurant finalists include Melt, Diva Dawg, Alma, Poke Loa, DTB, and Lula Restaurant Distillery. Each restaurant will come equipped with their best dishes and guests will have an opportunity to sample and vote on their favorites to crown 2017's Best Millennial Restaurant.
The restaurant competition will begin at 6:00 p.m. followed by the awards ceremony hosted by WWL-TV Anchor Thanh Truoung and Urban League of Louisiana president and CEO Erika McConduit at 7:00 p.m.
The after party will commence at the conclusion of the awards until 10:00 p.m. and will feature a live performance by New Orleans' own DJ Soul Sister, the award-winning "queen of rare groove."
