10,000 Veterans Convene In New Orleans For Veterans Of Foreign Wars Of The U.S. 118th National Convention

NEW ORLEANS – The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. (VFW) and its Auxiliary will welcome an estimated 10,000 veterans and their loved ones to the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center (MCCNO), Saturday, July 22, through Wednesday, July 26, for the 118th VFW National Convention. Veterans, service members and their families are invited to receive onsite health and wellness screenings, assistance with VA claims, educational scholarships, financial assistance and more.
Notable guests during the convention’s business sessions include Senator Bill Cassidy; Secretary David J. Shulkin, M.D., Department of Veterans Affairs; Army Staff Sergeant (Ret.), comedian and motivational speaker Bobby Henline – receiving the VFW Hall of Fame Award; U.S. Navy Captain and NASA Astronaut Christopher J. Cassidy – receiving the VFW Aeronautics and Aerospace Award; General Richard A. Cody, U.S. Army (Ret.) – receiving the VFW Armed Forces Award; and Medal of Honor Recipient Major General James Livingston (Ret.).
These sessions are open to VFW and Auxiliary members only.
The VFW is the nation’s largest and oldest major war veterans organization. Founded in 1899 and chartered by Congress in 1936, the VFW is comprised entirely of eligible veterans and military service members from the active, Guard and Reserve forces. With nearly 1.7 million VFW and Auxiliary members located in almost 6,500 posts worldwide, the nonprofit veterans service organization is proud to proclaim “NO ONE DOES MORE FOR VETERANS” than the VFW, which is dedicated to veterans’ service, legislative advocacy, and military and community service programs.
This is the eighth VFW National Convention to be hosted in New Orleans and the first since 1991. This year’s convention is projected to have an economic impact of more than $11.7 million.
