100 Pounds a Day!

That’s how much grain the Audubon Zoo’s four male giraffes can consume together in just one day.
The annual food budget for the zoo’s more than 1,400 creatures tops over $450,000. While that represents a lot of fruit, vegetables and grains, it is only about 2 percent of the overall operating budget (Audubon Zoo and Audubon Park combined have an annual operating budget of just under $26 million).
