Kean Miller Names Boutwell Chief Operating Officer

BATON ROUGE – Kean Miller LLP announced Steven R. Boutwell has been promoted to chief operating officer (COO) of the 150 attorney, 5-office law firm.
Boutwell provides counsel and support to firm management, partners and attorneys, and to the leadership of the firm's service departments. Boutwell works closely with the firm's chief financial officer (CFO) and service team leaders to develop and implement forward-thinking approaches to law firm talent allocation and development, information technology and knowledge management, staff and attorney training, professional development and continuing legal education, office facilities and records management, marketing and business development, legal pricing and project management, process mapping and process improvement, practice management, governance, research and competitive intelligence, trial logistics and support, diversity and inclusion, pro bono efforts and community relations.
A member of the Legal Marketing Association (LMA) since 1990, Boutwell has served as the director of client services and chief marketing officer (CMO) of the firm since 2007 where he and his team won national LMA “Your Honor” awards in 2015 and 2013. He also won national LMA awards in 2002 and 2008. Boutwell was named one of the Marketers of the Year by the Sales and Marketing Executives of Greater Baton Rouge in 2010.
Prior to rejoining Kean Miller as CMO, he served as the chief marketing officer for Bradley Arant Rose & White, LLP (now Bradley LLP) in Birmingham, Alabama, and as director of client services for Hughes & Luce, LLP (now KL Gate) in Dallas, Texas. Prior to his career in private practice law firms, Boutwell served in a variety of sales and management roles for Texas Lawyer newspaper (a division of American Lawyer Media/law.com) in Dallas, Austin, and Houston.
A graduate of Episcopal High School in Baton Rouge, Boutwell earned his B.A. in Journalism (Marketing and Advertising) from Louisiana State University in 1988. He and his wife Mary reside in Baton Rouge. Their daughter Rosemary is a freshman at Texas Christian University. He is vice president of the Board of Governors of the City Club of Baton Rouge, and a member of the Garden Guild of St. James Episcopal Church.
