The free event is in celebration of National Hispanic Heritage month and will feature health screenings, services for the community, children’s activities, food trucks, free cotton candy, ice cream and popcorn, and music performed by DJ Calde, Julio & Cesar Band, Gustavo Murillo, Ritmeaux and more.

The HCCL will also be collecting non-perishables donations for hurricane victims for Angeles de Amor.

Additional sponsors of the Hispanic Fall Fest include Jefferson Parish, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Louisiana and the New Orleans Baby Cakes.

According to www.hispanicheritagemonth.gov, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 - Oct. 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period. It was enacted into law on Aug. 17, 1988 on the approval of Public Law 100-402.
