Dean Named President Elect Of State Emergency Nursing Association

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane Health System leader Alicia Dean, RN, has been named president-elect of the Louisiana Emergency Nurses Association for the 2017-18 term. She will serve as president the following term, advancing the organization’s mission to advocate for patient safety and excellence in nursing.

“I’m honored to have this opportunity to represent the dedicated and skilled nurses who staff emergency departments throughout the state,” said Dean, who joined Tulane Health System last year as its director trauma services. “Being an emergency nurse is a tough, but gratifying, job. We want to make that job even better by fostering innovation, advocacy and continuing education in our profession.”

Dean was also recently accepted as a Fellow in the Academy of Emergency Nursing, which honors nurses who have made enduring, substantial contributions to emergency nursing and are continuing to advance the profession. Less than 150 nurses worldwide have earned this distinction. Dean will be inducted into the academy at the Emergency Nurses Association’s national conference in September.

“Tulane Health System is regional leader in emergency care, with below-national-average ER wait times, innovations like our ‘senior-friendly’ ER and specialized care like our pediatric ER at Tulane Lakeside Hospital for Women and Children,” said Dr. William Lunn, Tulane Health System CEO. “We are proud of Alicia’s accomplishments and happy that we can lend her skill and experience to help improve ER care throughout our state.”

After earning a nursing degree from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Dean earned a master’s in nursing from University of Alabama at Birmingham. She currently serves as an adjunct professor at the LSU Heath School of Nursing.

In addition to her role on the Tulane trauma program, she has also recently been named the interim director of the Tulane Bone Marrow Transplant Program.
