Children's Hospital Selects Emergency Department Chief

Dr. Toni Gross

NEW ORLEANS – Children’s Hospital New Orleans has named Toni K. Gross, MD, MPH, FAAP, to the newly created position of Chief of the Emergency Department. The announcement was made in a press release.

In her current role, Dr. Gross has provided national leadership in Emergency Medical Services (EMS), currently serving on the Board of Governors with the Arizona EMS. She works as an attending physician in the Emergency Department at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

“Dr. Gross has a unique vision for the future of our Emergency Department, emphasizing quality and efficiency of care,” said George S. Bisset, III, senior vice president, chief medical officer of Children’s Hospital. “Her emphasis on team-based care convinced us that she was the ideal candidate to lead our Emergency Department.”

Aaron Thompson, MD, has served as the medical director of the emergency department for the past five years and will transition to his new role as chief medical informatics officer in November.

“As we move to a Level II Trauma Center, having a pediatric emergency medicine-trained leader will enable us to achieve this distinction,” said Dr. Thompson. “Her expertise will allow us to take the Emergency Department to a higher level of care.”

Originally from Baton Rouge, Dr. Gross received her training at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia and completed her pediatric residency at LSU Health New Orleans and Children’s Hospital. She was a fellow at Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine and trained at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
