NEW ORLEANS – The Shelly Collen Memorial Fund at Early Learning Focus recently donated a Learning Wall to the Wilcox Academy of Early Learning, a childcare center located at 1678 N. Broad St.
The wall is a magnetized surface on which pre-school children can utilize their imaginations to create three-dimensional structures in Wilcox’ outdoor space.
Shelly Collen, who spent her career working with pre-kindergarten and kindergarten children, passed away last year. The Shelly Collen Memorial Fund at Early Learning Focus supports many of the programs of Early Learning Focus, including the LETS Read Literacy Bag Program and the Early Learning Resource and Training Center, reps said.
“Shelly believed that no child deserved less than the best education, which would give them the key tools for success in school and in life: curiosity, creativity and kindness," said Lisa Schlakman, Early Learning Focus’ program director. "The Learning Wall at Wilcox will enable young students to actively participate in their own social and emotional learning.”
