NOPD Supt. Harrison Elected To Major Cities Chiefs Association’s Board Of Directors

NEW ORLEANS— NOPD Supt. Michael Harrison was honored by his peers this month when the Major Cities Chiefs Association (MCCA) elected him to their board of directors as the representative for the nation’s central region.

“Chief Harrison has been instrumental in reforming and rebuilding the NOPD, and now his leadership is being acknowledged by his peers on a national level,” Mayor Landrieu said. “His relentless efforts to make our people safe, and to make them feel safe, are showing results: the homicide rate for the year is down nearly nine percent over each of the last two years, and public approval for the department is at 63 percent. I congratulate him on behalf of the City of New Orleans on this great honor, and I know he’ll continue to make us proud.”

Formed in 1949, the MCCA is a professional association of chiefs and sheriffs representing the largest cities in the U.S. and Canada. Their membership is comprised of leaders from 69 law enforcement agencies in the U.S. and 10 from Canada. The organization works to share strategies for policing large urban communities, and to help shape national public policy on law enforcement issues.
